3Intermediate

• Practices

  • Adapt the IT infrastructure management processes to move to an all-virtual world.
  • Invest and gain experience in virtualization-aware management tools to orchestrate the relationship between large numbers of dynamically changing VMs, physical servers, storage, and network resources.

  Outcomes

  • The default environment has shifted from server to virtual server.
  • Operational savings increase, and VM sprawl is controlled and reduced.
  • There is partial automation, leading to improvements in key processes such as change management, incident management, and deployment.

  • The appropriate level of environment access is provided to each constituency.
