  • Practice
    Use a basic set of criteria to define the desired future state use of IT, and to direct the preparation of a high-level strategy to achieve this future state.
    Outcome
    Some basic direction is provided regarding how the future use of IT will support some of the key business objectives.
    Metric
    Documented and approved IT strategy.
  • Practice
    Ensure IT management or the governing body identifies the change initiatives and 'quick wins' from the IT strategy that are needed to achieve the desired future state use of IT and to determine the readiness for such change.
    Outcome
    A high-level change programme is in place that will deliver some quick wins.
    Metric
    # of quick wins identified for the future state use of IT.

  • Practices
    • Apply a standard set of criteria to define how the future state use of IT will support new opportunities and objectives of the organization.
    • Define the IT strategy accordingly, and direct the achievement of optimal target outcomes for most proposed plans, policies, and initiatives.
    Outcome
    Direction is provided regarding how the future use of IT can leverage new opportunities and support most key business objectives.
    Metrics
    • Documented and approved IT strategy.
    • # of target outcomes defined (e.g. for plans, policies, etc.).
  • Practices
    • Have the governing body determine the business readiness for, and the ability of the organization to execute, the change management programme.
    • Put in place a programme management structure that directs the identification, review, and approval of the contents of the change programme.
    Outcome
    A change programme is in place, with formal governance of the programme contents, that will be used to deliver the desired future state use of IT.

    Use established criteria to direct how optimal target outcomes can be achieved for all proposed plans, policies, and initiatives.

    • Have the governing body determine the readiness for, and the ability of the organization to execute, the change management programme that can ensure the use of IT meets all business objectives.
    • Ensure that the programme is sponsored and supported by executive management so that resources are allocated based on strategic priorities and the operational needs of the entire organization.
    Outcome
    The change programme is sufficiently resourced and prioritized to ensure that the programme meets all business objectives on time and within budget.

    • The IT strategy can be modified to rapidly respond to any suspected changes in the business landscape.
